ALWD awarded the Inaugural Darby Dickerson Award for Revolutionary Change in Legal Writing to Darby Dickerson in January 2013 at the AALS annual meeting in New Orleans. The Award honors individuals whose vision and dedication have revolutionized the way legal writing is taught, practiced, or conceptualized. The Award was named in honor of Dean Dickerson because she exemplifies the type of ingenuity, creativity, and work ethic required to generate dynamic changes in the field of legal writing and her body of work, including her creation and revision of the ALWD Citation Manual: A Professional System of Citation, serves as an example to other legal writers.
